It’s the year of school choice, as is every year to follow

Those involved in the educational freedom movement often proclaim, “This is our year.” Yet, we can’t agree on which year that is.

Forbes and the nonprofit EdChoice dubbed 2023 as “the year of school choice.” The American Enterprise Institute, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and the American Federation for Children said the same about 2021. The Wall Street Journal went back even further, proclaiming 2011 as the landmark year.

Truth is, they are all correct.

School choice isn’t some flash-in-the-pan moment; it’s a robust national movement that’s wildly popular among voters. And despite setbacks (primarily driven by partisan politics and entrenched special interests), school choice continues to grow and prosper each year.
