More state dollars won’t create better scholars

Earlier this month, the Basic Education Funding Commission released its long-overdue recommendations regarding Pennsylvania’s fair funding formula for public schools.

Unfortunately, the recommendations from the commission majority have little to do with what is best for kids. Instead, it is primarily about putting special interests first.

The Democratic report is a laundry list of spending increases — matching the demands of taxpayer-funded lobbyists and union executives who stand to profit from these outlays. The report calls for more than $5 billion in additional state funding phased in over seven years — this likely would require significant tax hikes.
