On Friday, the Pennsylvania Senate passed, as part of a comprehensive state budget, Lifeline Scholarships to save kids trapped in the lowest-performing schools—with bipartisan support, for the second time in 24 hours.

While we are now past the state budget deadline, the Pennsylvania Legislature stands at an impasse—with the future of the commonwealth’s most vulnerable kids in the middle.

Despite the bipartisan Senate support for Lifeline Scholarships—and Gov. Josh Shapiro’s support for the proposal—some Democrats refuse to take the urgent action needed, or even allow a debate and vote—despite the fact that these scholarships would take zero dollars from public education funding.
