Coalition Says “Not” to NAT GAS Act

A coalition of groups, including the Commonwealth Foundation, sent a letter to members of Congress opposing the NAT GAS Act.  The NAT GAS Act (similar to the state-level “Marcellus Works” proposal), would create a slew of tax credits and corporate welfare to subsidize natural gas powered vehicles.  Since the letter, some members of Congress have withdrawn as cosponsors, according to Heritage Action.

The proposal would only further complicate the federal tax code, and represent government picking and choosing “winners” in the energy sector, at a time when policymakers should try to do the opposite—simplify the tax code and stop central planning of energy production.
