Wind Power May Kill You

With the recent fatalities resulting from disasters at the Deep Water Horizon drilling rig and Massey’s Upper Big Branch coal mine, many may begin to think that such sources of energy are too dangerous to harvest-that we need to utilize more alternative sources of energy that are safer to harvest. But are the methods used to harvest these resources any more dangerous than those methods used to harvest wind energy? The answer is a surprising no.

The Caithness Windfarms Information Forum (CWIF) has compiled a list of worldwide fatalities related to the wind industry. Based on the number of deaths per megawatt-hour produced, wind energy is more deadly than traditional power.

Looks like wind isn’t quite as safe as we may be led to think. (And for those who care about the wildlife deaths related to the wind industry–it’s also deadly to bats.)
