An Ethnic Taste of Corporate Welfare
The benevolent Department of Community and Economic Development most recently bestowed its generosity on the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Central Pennsylvania by awarding it $20,000. This money will “help start-ups and other businesses.”
Incidentally, the Chamber president, Paul Navarro, is also the president of New-Cumberland based Navarro & Wright Consulting Engineers Inc. Navarro says “The government market, which has been so much a part of Navarro & Wright’s growth, would serve as a vehicle for so many of those [minority owned] businesses.”I have two questions here – first, What is a government market? And second, is Wright Hispanic?
Of course, as an Indian in America, I feel slighted too. After all, as Joe Biden said, “You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.” What will happen if we don’t get our fair share of handouts?
Once again, the adminstration is favoring a few special interests for “political development” at the cost of taxpayers and sound economic policy.
