Report: Philly graduation rate 33% lower than suburbs

A new report on graduation rates in the largest US cities has troubling news for Philadelphia (and most urban districts). The Philadelphia City School District ranks 34th among the 50 largest US cities, with a graduation rate of 49.6% (the other cities range from Mesa, CA with 77.1% to Detroit’s abysmal 24.9% graduation rate).

The report also compares city districts with the suburbs in the metro region – Philadelphia again ranks poorly, with the 6th highest gap, 33 percentage points below the suburban graduation rate of 82%.
