The More You Know … The More You Wish You Didn’t

How does a $56,000 salary sound? Not bad? What if that salary was for working on a political campaign? Still better? Now imagine that salary was for your 2nd job, your first being a government employee earning $160,000 per year.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that is what Speaker Perzel’s chief of staff earned in 2005. It also reports on use of campaign donations for Super Bowl trips, Vegas vacations, and a total of $700,000 for reimbursement to legislative staffers.

This brings up not only the standards for using campaign contributions, but why staffers (apparently) working so hard on a campaign are still receiving checks from taxpayers.
