“That’s the way the system works”

Alletown Morning Call editorial on the “Quiet bump for legislators’ pensions adds to outrage over 2005 pay-grab“:

Of the lawmakers retiring, 17 will see their pension benefit improve because of the pay raise. One of the biggest beneficiaries is Rep. Elinor Z. Taylor, R-Chester, who served 30 years. She will see her annual pension improved by $9,500 a year to $97,000, even though she gave her $12,000 raise to fire companies, nursing homes and veterans groups. ”That’s the way the system works,” she said. ”I worked hard for my pension.”
