State Rep. Stephen Bloom to Join Commonwealth Foundation as Vice President

July 17, 2018, Harrisburg, Pa.—Today, the Commonwealth Foundation is pleased to announce that state Rep. Stephen Bloom will join the organization as vice president in December after his term’s conclusion.

Since 2011, Rep. Bloom has served the 199th District, covering parts of Cumberland County including Carlisle, in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

“The Commonwealth Foundation has long been among the most credible and effective state-level advocates for sound public policies that advance economic freedom,” Bloom commented. “During my service in the Pennsylvania General Assembly, the consistent quality and integrity of the CF team has earned my deepest respect. I have frequently relied upon their thoroughly researched scholarship to help win important legislative victories in arenas like educational reform, welfare reform, tax reform and fiscal stewardship.

“When my final term as state representative ends this November, I can’t imagine a more energizing, challenging and humbling opportunity than joining the Commonwealth Foundation to keep leading in the fight to empower all Pennsylvanians to flourish.”

Charles Mitchell, president and CEO of the Commonwealth Foundation, issued the following statement welcoming Bloom to the organization:

Throughout his service in the General Assembly, Steve has been a principled and respected champion of free-market policies. Moreover, anyone who knows Steve on a personal level knows he lives out the values Commonwealth Foundation stands for as an organization, including personal integrity, stewardship, and treating others with dignity no matter their beliefs.

I am delighted that Steve will be bringing his tremendous passion, courageous leadership, and excellent character to the Commonwealth Foundation team later this year. We could not ask for a better ambassador for our shared vision for Pennsylvania—that all people have equal opportunity to pursue their dreams and earn success.

At the Commonwealth Foundation, Bloom’s primary role will be overseeing the strategy, execution, and growth of the organization’s government affairs capability. He will also be engaging with many of the Pennsylvanians who support Commonwealth Foundation’s mission, including entrepreneurs and community leaders, to educate and activate them in support of free-market policy initiatives.

Bloom earned his Bachelor of Science in agricultural economics and rural sociology from Penn State University in 1983 and his Juris Doctor from The Dickinson School of Law in 1987, attaining membership in the Woolsack Honor Society. He is a 1979 graduate of Penncrest High School in Media, Delaware County and currently resides in North Middleton Township, Cumberland County, with his wife, Sharon.
