Movin’ Out of Pennsylvania in 2008

United Van Lines has released their 2008 migration study, detailing shipments into and out of each state. Pennsylvania saw 58% of movement leaving the state, ranking as the 4th highest outbound state (see related story in the Times Leader).

This data coincides with recent census data, which showed the Pennsylvania lost 11,500 residents to other states from July 2007-July 2008. Despite what Governor Rendell may claim about his success restoring Pennsylvania to prosperity, this is the continuation of a long trend in which Pennsylvania’s economic and tax climate drive residents and businesses away.
