Job Purpose:

The Government Affairs Associate (GA) adds value to the organization by ensuring the GA team and CF staff are supported and informed about legislative activity and key policy. The GA Associate will also assist in managing key relationships with legislative stakeholders.

Priorities: 

  • Track and monitor key legislation in Pennsylvania and compile policy data related to CF’s key issues, legislative districts, and legislators.
    • Attend session and relevant committee meetings in person.
  • Monitor key legislation and policy changes in other states.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to CF Government Affairs staff for the planning and execution of Government Affairs strategy and tactics. 
  • Assist in coordinating strategy to get legislation introduced and track votes for passage.
  • Work with CF staff to implement strategic marketing campaigns and public engagement strategy. 
  • Provide internal guidance for tone of legislative communication and tools or analysis needed to help policymakers. 
    • Communicate legislative updates to CF staff. 
  • Work with outside coalitions on key policy initiatives. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

  • Research & Tracking
    • Drive GA research projects to support team and better inform strategy.
    • Develop lists and compile data related to GA strategy.
    • Ensure GA Team is aware of legislative calendar, bill movement, discussion of key legislation, committee action, and amendments.
    • Monitor and compare movement on key policy areas in other states.
    • Monitor relevant Pa media headlines and legislative events.
  • Communication  
    • Regularly communicate bill movement and general Pa legislative landscape to non-GA CF staff.
    • Provide internal guidance for tone of communications and policy analysis work.
    • Meet with external coalition partners and identify opportunities to work together to advance policy goals. 
    • Send event invitations and memos via email marketing software to legislators and track RSVPs.
  • General GA support 
    • Attend session and key committee meetings in person; represent CF at Harrisburg events as needed; attend office events as needed.
    • Participate in GA strategy meetings, as needed.
    • Schedule meetings and regular communication reminders for GA staff.
    • Help the GA team track key committee meetings, votes, and key events.

Qualifications:

  • Share a commitment to the free-market principles of CF.
  • Excellent organizational, research and data, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build an easy rapport and interact well with others at all levels, both externally and internally.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other web-based content applications.
  • 0-3 years of professional experience
  • Flexibility to work outside of core hours 8:30am – 5:30pm
  • This is not a remote position. The incumbent must be able to work from the Harrisburg office during office hours.
