Rhett Butler is the Director of Foundations at the Commonwealth Foundation.

Rhett has a diverse background in the public and private sectors. He has worked as a freelance grant writer, fundraiser at the Mercatus Center, and government affairs consultant at a law firm. Before that he held policymaking positions on Capitol Hill and at the White House and U.S. Department of Labor. He earned a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and an undergraduate degree from Penn State University.

Rhett grew up in Central Pennsylvania and now lives in Virginia with his wife and their three children.
