Should PA taxpayers be subsidizing Hollywood?

Lowman Henry weighs in on the $5.7 million tax credit awarded by Pennsylvania taxpayers to the raunchy comedy, Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Henry thinks that other issues, like road and bridge repair or the addressing the looming budget deficit, should be higher priorities.

NC-17 rating or not, subsidizing Hollywood filmmakers is not a proper role for government. Film tax credits don’t result in any economic gains, but only distort the tax code – resulting in higher taxes on most Pennsylvania families and business, while awarding special carve-outs to politically connected companies.
