PUC Commissioners Oppose Cap and Trade

The Vice Chairman and two other Commissioners of the Pennsylvania Utility Commission sent a letter to the PA Congressional Delegation in opposition to proposed cap and trade legislation.

Their critique is that “this policy will have a profound adverse impact on the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania”, especially given that Pennsylvania is a large coal-producing state.

Like Obama, they believe Cap and Trade will necessarily increase electricity rates.

The cost estimates are staggering … By 2013, this would result in an annual PJB-wide market impact of nearly $36 billion in higher energy prices and rate increases of over $400 annually for resident ratepayers.
