The Marcellus Shale: A Real Stimulus

This is absurd...if financial gain is the only goal you find worthy of pursuing, then you have absolutley no concern for the well
being of our children, of the water we drink, and of the earth we inhabit. Humans are able to reason above animals and this gives us great advantages in manipulating the enviornment around us, but with that comes the need of well rounded responsible oversight in every manipulation we inflict upon the world around us. If you really believe there is no hazardous damage done by hydraulic fracturing, then you are not paying attention to reality. Industry wants us to believe it is environmentally safe, but that is only because every single drilling company is concerned with making a profit, not with the well being and safety of the average American. Our country is capitalistic which means coorporations like large drilling companies want to trick you into thinking it's a good idea to give them your money. Do more research on this and you will see how many Americans are now living with massive water contamination to their wells that were not there previous to fracking procedures. How is it a good idea to pump water, sand, and a secret amount of various, highly toxic chemicals at high pressure into the earth? Does this not seem like it could pose future problems? I understand the need for an energy source that is not dependent upon foreign oil, but to do something soley for that reason is morally apprehensible. Not only are these companies not accountable to the Clean Water and Drinking Act, but they will not disclose their "secret fracking sauce" to the public. If it's so safe, why do they fight so hard to keep it secret? If it does not negatively affect water supplies, what do they have to loose? Wouldn't safety aprroval result in more public acceptance, something they will need? There is also seismic activity to be concerned with as well. For some reason, we do things simply because we can and don't stop to wonder if we should. Maybe we should consider using less energy rather than rushing to take as much natural resource as we can. It will all eventually run out, so wouldn't it be better to invest our time and money into something that has long term sustainablility? Also, every other export of a natural resource is subject to a tax, which is only fair.To be exempt from safety regulations and a tax makes the public extremely hesitant to buy into this. Stop trusting companies that care very little for the individual and even less for their impact on the environment. We need to start thinking beyond short-term monetary gains and start making logical sense. It's not fair that these companies just start doing things without asking or discussing said practices with the public, who is inevitably affected by them. If the water is not contaminated, why are drilling companies providing cisterns of clean water to vast amounts of communities where drilling has occured? If my well is fine one day, and fracking occurs near or on my land, and my well is toxic the next day, it logically follows that this is the cause. Please, please get some more information, because you are helping to damage us all by promoting hydraulic fracturing techiniques. Go to some local forums of communities that are dealing with this and you will see how the public feels about it all. Ultimatley, we are larger in number than companies, although they hold most of the money. If enough of a public outcry exists, they will not be able to procede. Also, I would recommend watching "Gas lands" and noting that even the EPA has stated that "there are compelling reasons to believe that hydraulic fracturing may impact ground water and surface water quality in ways that threaten human health and the environment." Get smarter people, or we will be our own downfall and the death to our descendants.

That's it, lets suck every available resource out of the planet and forget about it later. Screw the environment. Forget about renewables, can't make any money off that.
