How is this transparency thingy in the great state of Pennsylvania going to work with our economy tanking. All the union jobs that are subsidized by the states contribution to their pension plans are not being funded by the state .
Will the taxpayer and homeowner be hit to pay all the psers , firemen ,police and cummunities pensions that let people retire in their 50's ?
The people that own their homes will see their taxes rize to unsustainable levels causing more foreclosures and debt on the only people that are siting on a little savings that will soon be gone.
There are too many exceptions to the transparency ruling. We look like a communist state being held hostage by our elected officials and drunks.
A little elaboration please ?

No one is blaming the teachers and employees ? They're blaming the teachers and employees union and are asking the same greedy B%$#%$#@ to shift the blame?
How the hell do you think the shop stewarts learn how to pass the greed on to the taxpayer ? It's easy, just give the lobbyists for the psea enough money to hand over to our crooked as hell lawmakers to pass favorable legislation that puts the screws to the taxpayer/homeowner when the psers and sers pension fund falls below the ability to pay all their retirees?
You can do better than your short sentence Benefield in expaning how the greed works in Harrisburg and our state unions ?

Richard W. Burfield,
Try to explain the difference again that the State hasn't met their contribuions to your pension fund and now must put in a lot more.
To me that means you don't give a rats behind where the money comes from as long as you get the share your crooked lobbyists and legislators voted for.
It's all taxpayer money and we're sick and tired and ready to fight all your greed at our expense ?

When the Dow went above 13,000 the teachers and pensioners were elated the stock market would bail them out ? You and I know we all were losing money even with the gains . Dow down and heading lower. Housing also.
Gas prices and food heading up and the PSEA has legislation and paid off crooks in Harrisburg that think the homeowner is going to pay off the underfunding of all school districts and their retirees.
I've seen the crying draft dodgers before and I see the cowards every day. Get ready to fight or die to take your country back.

So true. Public employees unions have pushed and pushed for higher wages, benefits from elected officals they supported. Nice way to negociate pays raises, with people who they have helped elect via their union dues. I spent 31 years in management with the state and the unions always had the upper hand supporting incompetent and poor employees while the state government didn't put up a fight. I once asked a union president what more they could ask at the next contract, they had it all. He responded ,"we will think of some thing and you'll give it o us. That attitude across the country is responsible for so much of the budgetary issues we now have. Mgt and unions share the current state of affairs.
Union learers simply feed on their members and most of them don't see that they are being used.

To be sure, there are 3 reasons for the shortfall - 1) The pension increases of 2001 and COLA of 2002, which we are paying off with higher taxpayer contributions over 30 years. 2) Investment losses over 2001-02 and 2008 (given that the plan assumes 8% return, and anything below that requires higher taxpayer contribution). 3) As both comments address, state lawmakers voted to "defer" taxpayer contributions - i.e., "not paying their share" - with legislation in 2003 and with Act 120 last year.
You will note, however, that this plan to defer payments - driving up unfunded liabilities and future costs - was proposed, endorsed, and lobbied for by public sector unions, primarily by the PSEA.
No one is blaming employees and teachers - we are blaming the employees' and teachers' unions. So should public employees and school teachers.

Exactly, not just the teachers but all state employees payed and the State didn't pay a dime. The employees did their share but the State said that was sufficiant. No it wasn't and again now it is the easy thing to blame state employees and teachers. They are not the problem, look at the Govornors over the last 20 years and ask them why they did nothing.

You fogot to say that school employes for several years put in more money then the state. Also a large part of the problem is that the state did not put in whot theyshould have and now they must put in alot more.

True the state pays the entire state payments, nothing new there but the issue has been the state didn't pay anything for many years and let the employees contribution be the only one. The problem was government inatention and now the blame seems to be put on the employees who accepted the rules as stated when they were hired. Remember state salries weren't very good in the 70's 80'and the deal was take less pay for better benefits, now the pay is up and of course the pensions need to be adjusted accordingly.
