PennFuture’s Hypocritcal, Unethical, and Possibly Illegal Lobbying

"huw" whoever you are... funny how you are say CF is hiding yet you hide behind "huw"...and quit threadjacking. Love that! Thanks, Katrina, for adding to my urban vocab.

Katrina

The issue here is one of credibility. We have one organization criticizing another. But the complainant, CF, has a credibility issue. Unlike Penn Futures they don't release their donor info, and worse, think that it foolish to do so. Yet they feel free to criticize another organization that is apparently far more transparent. That's a legitimate issue, not flame or threadjacking. Time for CF to man up and release their info.
What are they trying to hide?

huw, are you threadjacking or flaming?

Why don't you actually comment on what the report is about - dishonest lobbying.

It's not foolish for them to post their money trail. It's the right thing to do, something the Commonwealth Foundation should also do, instead of using "bogeymen" to excuse your deceptive practices.

No chance, we don't want unions goons (or the KKK) showing up at our donors homes and bashing their skulls with baseball bats.

And I have no idea what you mean by "PA Repubs". Individual who are registered to vote as Republicans? We aren't allowed to take any money from political parties or candidates or PACs, even if we wanted to, and we refuse to take government funding. Most of our funding comes from private foundations and individuals.

And no, we are not holding PennFuture to a different standard - if they had kept their donors confidential (as they should have), we'd respect that. Instead, they highlighted that the are taking money from the special interests they are lobbying for. And the main issue is that they aren't reporting that they are lobbying.

There's the old saying, "do unto others..." Sounds like you're holding Penn Future to a much higher standard than you hold your own organization. Publish a list of your donors, so the public can see your money trail. Word has it, you've gotten big money from Pa Repubs. Set the record straight with the donor facts!

That's not "what we preach" at all. We have long respected the right of privacy of donors to nonprofit organization (see NAACP vs. Alabama http://bit.ly/cxztYO). We do have to file this with the IRS, and our tax returns (without personal donor info) can be easily found at places like GuideStar.org.

That PennFuture disclosed their major funders was foolish - particularly when what they are doing is taking money from alternative energy companies, then lobbying for subsidies for alternative energy. Essentially they are engaged in lobbying laundering.

They are also taking money from taxpayers to lobbying for higher taxes. All this while reporting zero dollars in lobbying - which is primarily what they are engaging in.

Penn Future brings up a good point in their defense. They publish a fair amount of info about their practices and funding while the Commonwealth Foundation practices very little transparency. So CF, why don't you rise to the challenge and publish prominently a list of your donors and how that money is spent. Practice what you preach
