School Choice Saves, School Choice Sells

Harrisburg is atwitter this morning as the Senate Education Committee is voting on school choice legislation.  Let’s quickly rebut three myths that are circulating:

  1. School choice saves money.  It’s already saving us $4 billion in Pennsylvania.  More choice would save more.
  2. School choice saves lives.  Right now, nearly 82,000 students are trapped in schools that are not only failing them academically but also played host to more than 4,500 acts of violence in 2009-2010.  School choice throws them a lifeline.
  3. If saving money and saving lives isn’t enough for you, school choice is indeed popular.  Half of Pennsylvanians support vouchers, and support only increases the bigger the program gets.
