Do Conservatives Support National Education Standards?

I've been teaching for 13 years and have officially begun my exit strategy. My degree prepared me to engage my students in meaningful and relevant studies that would prepare them for a vocation or college. Unfortunately, we're one step closer to needing nothing more than a 3-ring binder of scripted/canned curriculum. Few educators in public schools disagree with the need for accountability to the taxpayers, but how can a taxpayer be happy with nothing more than a well-prepared test-taker with an educational experience limited to the whims of PDE?
