Program Overview: The Koch Associate Program is a year-long, paid program designed to develop promising leaders and entrepreneurs interested in liberty and a career in the non-profit arena. Associates range in experience level from recent graduates to those with up to a decade of work experience, and come from diverse fields and academic majors.
Positions Available:
Research Associate
Position Summary:
The Research Associate will assist the Director of Policy Research with the Commonwealth Foundation's research and publication agenda. The Associate will be asked to collect and analyze data, track policy developments and legislations, and compile and write research briefs and opinion-editorials. Opportunities for public speaking and media presentations also exist.
Position Detail, Roles, and Responsibilities:
- Research and writing on various public policy issues.
- Preparing and writing analyses and comparisons of proposed legislation.
- Attending meetings and hearings on Capitol Hill and reporting on developments.
- Assisting with the coordination of educational forums and special events.
- General office assistance.
By the end of the program, a successful Associate will achieve these goals:
- Author or co-author a policy report for publication and distribution.
- Author a number of policy-related op-eds feature in Pennsylvania newspapers.
- Develop an understanding of the role of research and educational institutions in the public policy process.
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, political science, history, public policy, or related field.
- Familiarity with state policy and politics.

Communications Associate
Position Summary:
The Communications Associate's primary role is the production and marketing of THE BOX radio program, a weekly radio program of the Commonwealth Foundation (http://www.theboxprogram.com/ [2]).
Position Detail, Roles, and Responsibilities:
In addition to operating and managing the studio production of the THE BOX, the Associate will assist in the marketing and promotion of the program to new radio stations and the general public. This includes oversight of the website and email systems, production of MP3 files and CDs for mass distribution, and general assistance with the Foundation's communications needs.
Education and Experience Required:
Interest in learning about radio program production. Skills will be taught and developed.

Development/Marketing Associate
Position Summary:
The Development/Marketing Associate will work directly with the Vice President on all fundraising and promotion for the organization. This dual role will require strategic leadership as a development associate (including contributor identification, prospecting, and proposal writing) and a marketing associate (including involvement with all print, electronic, and broadcast publications, as well as forums and events).

By the end of the program, the successful Associate will achieve these goals:
- Understand how to promote and market a free-market state-based think tank.
- Experience working with a dynamic, energetic, and committed team of policy professionals.
- Prepared to become part of a leadership team in state-based think tank.
Education and Experience Required:
- Graduate degree preferred, but not required.
- Experience in either or both fundraising and marketing/communications.
- Excellent communicator and good people person.
Years of Experience Preferred: 3-10 years
